A Bit About Me

Alexis works predominantly with visual art such as film and photography. She has been working in this field for many years, starting in filmmaking. Her work often doesn’t live strictly in reality but is grounded in a way that is still relatable to the audience. She also makes art that speaks to a lot of unspoken or complicated to explain emotions, such as those we didn’t know had names. For example, sonder, the sudden realisation that everyone around you has complicated lives as well. Also, concepts such as fatal flaws or duality of man. In film, she particularly enjoys magical realism/fantasy and cathartic comedy. Occasionally choosing to create a world full of magic and wonder or occasionally creating a project where the audience gets a cathartic release through the characters.

Education

Australian Catholic University

2020-2022

Bachelor of Creative Arts

Majors: Media and drama

For the past three years, I have studied at Australian Catholic University, focusing on media and drama. Through this degree I have studied the history and theory of  media and drama and put my knowledge and creativity to practice by making films and performances. When creating films, I learnt a lot about editing sound and video with Final Cut Pro, Logic, and using equipment such as black magic cameras and, microphones and tascams. I also learnt a lot about teamwork and leading a team as I created my films, worked on other peoples and worked together to put on a stage performance.

Acting Performance Studio

2020-Present

Through my time with Acting Performance Studio I have honed my acting skills and improved my filmmaking skills. During my time there I have focused more on acting for the camera, a wide range of techniques of acting and creating a short film. When creating a short film we worked together to develop an idea, create a script and work on some of the direction and editing of the film. Through the acting portion of the classes, I have learnt how to take direction, acting techniques that you can use such as sensory acting, and different ways to break down a script such as finding beats and motivations.

Work Experience

March 2021 - December 2022

December 2019 - March 2020

September 2017 -March 2020

April 2021 - Feburary 2022

Australian Catholic University Melbourne  Dance Club Committee member:

I have spent two years on the Australian Catholic University Dance Club's committee. I started as the Social Media Manager from March 2021 to May 2021, I then progressed to the Vice President from June 2021 to December 2021. For this past year, I have been the President of the club. As social media manager, I learnt about consumer habits, when and how to engage with the audience and photo editing for a client and certain audiences. When replying to social media messages, I also worked as a liaison between current members, prospective members, coaches, and the committee and university staff. I relayed important information in a timely and concise manner. As vice president and president of the club, I continued to learn about correctly relaying information and being a liaison between members, coaches, prospective members, committee members, and ACU staff. I also learnt how to manage a team, work well as a team, make decisions under pressure, complete tasks in a timely manner and paint communication between the club and other necessary organisations. As president of the club, I learnt more about how to manage a team and delegate. I learnt how to assign tasks to people best suited for the job and trust that they can complete the task. I learnt how to organise tasks in importance and plan when to begin working on them, and create a timeline for them.

Volunteer Usher at Theatre Works
Through my work with Theatre Works, I learnt about having the initiative to find tasks that need to be completed. I assisted patrons with any concerns that they may have and ensured efficient service to maintain a flow of patrons through small areas such as the foyer.

Crew Trainer/member at Mcdonald's.
In 2017 I began at Mcdonald's as a crew member, in February 2019, I became a crew trainer. As a crew member, I learnt how to work in a team by completing tasks that others may not have wanted to complete but needed to be done. I learnt how to work well in a team by being able to work in sync and anticipate the needs of others and stay on task, I also learnt how to work calmly under pressure. As a crew trainer, I was often put in charge of leading areas. In this, I learnt how to anticipate problems and find a mix of people in positions that create the most officiate running of the area. I also learnt how to delegate tasks and lead by example. Also, as crew trainer, I taught new crew members the running of the store and specific tasks. Through this, I learnt how to best explain tasks in a way that people will understand and be able to pivot my training and explanation if they do not understand.

Front of House at Coburgers and Co

Through my time at Coburgers and Co I learnt to have the initiative to find tasks that need to be completed and to work efficiently to complete all front-of-house restaurant tasks alone. I learnt how to work calmly under pressure and be able to time the tasks to finish at a good time. I also leant communication by quickly and clearly communicating what needs to be done and finding new ways to express that information if it is not clear to that person.
